The History of Royal Wagenborg

In 1898, tjalk skipper Egbert Wagenborg started his own company - sea transportation of people and cargo.

By responding intelligently to the needs of the changing market and by looking ahead to the future, Wagenborg managed to develop into a well-known regional transport company. The fleet expanded steadily and the company became an important shipping player in its home port of Delfzijl.

Thinking intelligently and looking ahead is still the lifeblood of Royal Wagenborg. These days the company is a provider of every type of transport, and has divisions that operate in all parts of the transport chain. However, the spirit of the founder Wagenborg is still evident in the way every business unit seeks an intelligent transport solution.

In our newly renovated head office in Delfzijl our history has become tangible in recent times - the tjalk ‘Liberté’ is now safely anchored for all to see in our head office. It is a silent witness to the past and the future of Royal Wagenborg: Sign of Solutions.
