Giant transformers travelling to Dörpen
Saturday, November 19, 2011
In the village of Dörpen, Northern Germany, a
new substation will be constructed. Power, generated by the
offshore wind parks north of Germany, will be put into the German
power network via this new transformer station.
Important equipment for the new substation are
the transformers. Last week, the first set of 2 transformers of 360
tons each was loaded at the factory in Bad Honnef. Via various
rivers and channels, with a break in Northern part of the
Netherlands, the giants will be transported by barge to Northern
Germany. In the next coming days, an extraordinary operation will
take place there. To enable transshipment of the transformers from
barge, a temporary quay will be constructed, approx. 10 kilometers
from the final destination. Here, a roll-off operation will take
place. After that, the last part of the route by road will be
finalized.
To be continued….
