Collett & Sons Ltd is a very successful and well respected family owned Company, established in Halifax over 47 years ago. The Company specialises in three main areas of the Transport Industry namely;

• General Haulage
• Heavy Transport
• Warehouse, Distribution & Handling

The Company owns a modern fleet of over 40 vehicles and 70 Trailers which are fully maintained in-house on a purpose designed 5 acre site in Halifax.


The Company specialises in transporting difficult loads and operates in 3 major sectors being oil and gas, Petrochem and the Power generation industry, including renewable energy equipment such as wind turbines. The Company also offers warehousing and heavy-lift storage at its depots in Halifax and Goole.

More recently, the Company has been set in to 3 closely run Divisions to reflect the way that it has developed and the diverse nature of the business, for the clients it serves. These 3 Divisions are integrated between each other and also help to serve each other which  allows the Company to offer a truly ‘One stop shop’ service.

 

  • Transport          

          – Undertaking the General transport, Warehousing, Heavy Transport

             & projects.

  • Marine

           – Undertaking the Chartering operations, Port and Ships Agency

              services.

  • Consulting        

          – Undertaking the Route surveying and site access studies and

              reporting.

 

2. The Role

 

Working as part of the senior management team, this key appointment will report directly to the Managing Director and head up a new opportunity that the Company is keen to pursue, namely the Business development and integration of a Heavy Lift service with their already existing Projects, Heavy Transport and Marine operations which is based in Goole.

 

Collett & Sons have been approached by Wagenborg Nedlift B.V. that wish to enter the

UK market for Heavy lift Strut jib crawler cranes and Industrial services including SPMT and modular trailer operations on medium and long term projects and have selected Collett & Sons to represent them and serve as a partner for this work.

 

The role will include:

·         Business development

·         To seek the appropriate clients and distill the suitable work as target 

          projects.

·         Work with prospective clients to secure RFQ’s and tender documents

·         Interface with our EU partner in order to complete RFQ’s and tenders

·         Submit said tenders and offers

·         Secure business

·         Where necessary, manage required Insurance, documentation and

          certification for the projects

·         Where necessary, manage various facets of projects and interface

          with clients and our EU partner

·         Responsibility for productivity for these projects, including invoicing 

          and profitability.

 

3. Experience Required

 

Candidates must have previous experience with EPC contracts, project management, Shipping, Heavy transport and Heavy Lift Cranes.

 

The candidate will also be responsible to provide or oversee the preparation and submission of Tender documents and offers and must have the commercial acumen and experience to ensure that these activities are provided on a profitable and stable basis.

 

The candidate must be customer focused and driven to increase sales and marketing of the operation. Therefore commercially astute and be suitable to work on a personal level with the client base.

 

As this operation grows, the candidate will also have a responsibility and input to appoint additional staff, delegate tasks and roles in order to satisfy the needs of the operation.

 

Part of the planned growth is to utilize our existing Heavy Transport, SPMT, Projects and Marine departments so knowledge of these types of activities would be an advantage.

 

Qualifications/Professional Development

Ø  Graduate or equivalent

Ø  Minimum 5 years+ commercial experience in the heavy lift, shipping and logistics sector or Engineering and construction market.

 

Commercial Skills

Ø  Demonstrates potential to identify and win Heavy Lift and projects work: securing, managing and delivering work.

Ø  Good knowledge of current developments in the UK projects industry.

Ø  Good knowledge of key figures and influencers in the sector across the UK and internationally.

Ø  Demonstrates a high level of commercial awareness with a proven track record of preparing tenders; presenting to clients; costing bids.

5. Location

 

The role is based at our Depot at the Port of Goole, between Leeds and Hull, but will require the candidate to work on a ‘Mobile’ basis in order to perform a large percentage of the task.

 

Additionally, a valid Passport is essential as UK, European and Worldwide travel will be expected on occasion to service client requirements as required.

 

6. Remuneration Package

 

This is a senior and key appointment as such an attractive remuneration package will be on offer to reflect the level of experience the appointee brings to Collett Transport.
