The Living Quarter Barges (LQB) in the Caspian Sea are an example of the practical approach that is involved in our activities.

The drilling sites in the northern part of the Caspian Sea are artificial islands created out of sand and stone, and protected by a sheet piling construction. On these islands of 100 x 100 mtrs the drilling rigs and the associated equipment is placed. However, the temporary nature of the drilling operation means there is no permanent accommodation for the personnel members.

Therefore we provide a 'Living Quarter Barge' near the island during drilling operations. It is placed at a site that was levelled at the seabed. The accommodation unit is connected to the island by means of a footbridge. An LQB can house and care for 120 people.

To prevent damage to the Living Quarter Barges or to prevent its movement by drifting ice, so-called 'Ice Protection Structures' (IPS) are placed on both sides of the LQBs during winter.
