Reining selects Quintiq Logistics Planner
Tuesday, May 29, 2007
Hoogezand, March 15, 2007
Logistic service provider Reining, a subsidiary of Royal Wagenborg
in Delfzijl, will implement the Logistics Planner provided by
software supplier Quintiq. Reining is the eighth transport company
in the Netherlands to select the Quintiq solution.
Quintiq partner CapGemini will help with the implementation of
the solution. The software is expected to be operational this
summer.
With the new solution for operational transport planning,
Reining wants to further improve its logistics services. With an
integrated and reliable planning system the company will be better
able to inform its customers on loading and delivery times. In this
way Reining will be able to offer customers higher service levels.
The investments in automation will lead to cost savings for
customers, says Reining.
As Reining is a fast growing company, internal efficiency is
becoming increasingly important. One of the goals of the
organisation is to use the Quintiq solution to optimise the
business processes and to broaden the span of control of the
planners.
The Quintiq Logistics Planner is an integrated solution for the
planning of people, resources and cargo. One of the main
characteristics of the software is its in-built intelligence. It
supports planners in a variety of ways. The software can for
example calculate all the consequences of a specific planning
decision or a disturbance. A planning department can also create an
optimized planning based on pre-defined parameters. In addition,
planners can view bottlenecks and are informed on how to solve
them.
The Quintiq system helps planners to look ahead; whenever there’s a
disturbance they can act quickly and come up with alternatives.
This is possible because the Quintiq system processes any planning
decision in real time. This means there’s insight into the actual
situation at any time, leading to stability in the planning
department.
The Quintiq solution also offers the possibility to calculate
different planning scenarios with regard to cost, time or delivery
dependability. This so-called tendering functionality can help
transport companies gain more insight into the cost impact of
orders on the existing network when they are competing with others
for an order.
In a second phase, Quintiq will also address other planning
issues, including the intelligent setup of a driver roster
planning. All these activities will be based on the same standard
software.
