Ertsoverslagbedrijf Europoort C.V. (EECV), situated in the Europoort area of the port of Rotterdam, operates one of the greatest and state of the art bulk terminals in Europe.
On an area of 82 ha approximately 30 Mio tons of iron ore and coal are handled yearly. Using ecologically friendly and up-to-date technologies EECV guarantees permanently unloading of sea vessels, storing and loading of raw materials into push barges and barges for the hinterland transport to the German costumers at the Ruhr area.
Recently, a new Stacker was constructed on behalf of extension of the terminal’s capacity. Wagenborg Nedlift took care of the transport and lifting works of the Stacker pieces. Large parts arrived per ship alongside quay at EECV. The basic part of the Stacker, with a weight 107 tons, was offloaded by a floating sheerleg. This piece already was 10 meters wide and 15 meters high! To transport the basic part to the construction site, various traffic lights had to be removed and the road was spread with steel plates. At the EECV’s entry, some adjustments had to be done to let the giant transport pass unhindered.
The next shipment contained considerable lighter parts, so offloading was done by 2 hydraulic cranes. To transport the longest piece of 61 tons, 40 meter length, a dolly-combination was used for the transport to construction site.
Wagenborg Nedlift’s crew from Vlaardingen branch (near Rotterdam) in the meantime was very busy with the assembly works on the giant Stacker. Various hydraulic cranes, such as two 500 tons capacity cranes assisted with this job. During the next coming weeks, the assembly works on the Stacker will be completed.
