Early January, Wagenborg delivered the first transformer, manufactured by Royal Smit Transformers, at the new transformer station in Emden Ost, Germany.
Tennet owned “Umspannwerk Emden Ost” connects several offshore windfarms to the German grid. The transformer, weighing 235 tonnes, was transported to site through the port of Emden. To facilitate this heavy transport, a nearby bridge across the Emsseitenkanal was replaced by a new one. The Smit transformer was the first heavy item to make the crossing, an exciting moment for all parties involved! In order to protect the ground from damaging, the Wagenborg steel plates department laid down steel plates and wooden mats.
As can be expected from Wagenborg, the transformer reached the site without any problems and was positioned onto its foundation shortly after. Another project completed which fully showed Wagenborg’s capacity and expertise.
