The preparations for project ‘Aanpak Ring Zuid’ have started. ‘Aanpak Ring Zuid’ is an extensive project with the aim to regulate the traffic in and around the city center of Groningen in a better and safer way. The project is executed by contractor Combinatie Herepoort. Combinatie Herepoort selected Wagenborg as lifting contractor for this project.
Positioning the Esperantotunnel (bicycle tunnel) and the utility tunnel at the Esperantokruising is one of the first major Wagenborg projects during project ‘Aanpak Ring Zuid’. The railways have been temporarily removed in order to position the tunnels below the railways. On Sunday, August 6th, after removing the railways, the activities started.
In total, 18 elements for the bicycle bridge have been supplied from the temporary storage location at Rusthoven one by one. Wagenborg employed her 700 tonnes mobile crane to position 14 elements for the utility tunnel (weighing 32 tonnes per element) and her 500 tonnes mobile crane to position the elements for the bicycle bridge (weighing 44,5 tonnes per element). A spectacular job, live witnessed by many people via webcam.
As soon as the work at the Esperantokruising is finished, the construction pit will be closed and the railways will be repositioned. According to planning, the train traffic between Groningen and Assen, Winschoten and veendam will be resumed from Monday, August 14th.
