How to position a gigantic railway bridge (measuring 53 meters in length  and weighing 280 tonnes)  across water? Stahl- und Brückenbau Niesky GmbH asked Wagenborg to find the best transport solution for this question and to perform the job accordingly. Wagenborg gladly accepted this challenge. This family owned business, in existence for over a century, is always able to find the best and safest transport solutions.

The best solution was found in combining a 400 tonnes crawler crane, a skidding system (60 meters) and hydraulic climbing jacks. First, the bridge was skidded in the right direction as far as possible, until within reach of the crawler crane, positioned on the other side of the water. After the skidding operation, the climbing jacks supported the bridge and it was time to remove the skidding system. After removal, a team of Wagenborg specialists skillfully positioned the bridge onto the abutments by crawler crane and climbing jacks.

Job well done and safely performed!
