Would you like to use your welding skills to renew old ships, handle complex repairs, or even completely transform existing vessels? Then we have the perfect job for you!

Who we are

Royal Niestern Sander is a versatile, powerful, and innovative shipyard. We design, build, and repair ships, specializing in (often complex) customer-focused ship conversions.

Located in Farmsum and Delfzijl, we’ve been a proud part of the Wagenborg group since 2008. Our facilities include several production halls for new builds, a slipway, and two dry docks (outside the dikes) for ship repairs. We also have our own machine shop for metal parts.

With over 120 years of knowledge and experience, Royal Niestern Sander is considered one of the best shipyards in the north of the Netherlands. Around 160 employees with permanent contracts work here, all covered under the Metalektro collective labor agreement.

What will you be doing?

You’ll be responsible for welding work in our dock and shipyard, contributing to a wide variety of ships. Together with your colleagues, you’ll ensure that each ship is back in operation quickly and in top condition.

One week, you might be working on a 5-year maintenance project, and the next, you’ll be repairing a dent in the bow. You’ll also contribute to large and complex projects.

Take the Rotra Mare as an example: it came to our dock to be extended by eleven meters. First, we built a completely new section. To install it, we halved the existing ship in our floating dock. After towing the bow away, we inserted the new section and adjusted it to fit the aft ship. Then, we lowered the dock again to reattach the bow. As you can imagine, this project involved a significant amount of welding!

What do we offer?

  • A position at a stable and reputable company.

  • Challenging and varied work.

  • A competitive salary.

  • Well-paid overtime.

  • Additional perks on top of your salary, such as:

    • Partial reimbursement for your gym membership or sportswear.

    • Discounts on health insurance.

    • A generous expense allowance.

    • An annual profit-sharing scheme.

  • Opportunities to follow training courses at our expense.

  • A strong focus on HSEQ (Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality).

  • And did we mention the amazing colleagues?!

Who are we looking for?

  • Preferably, you have experience welding in shipbuilding.

  • You hold BmbE level 3 and Mag level 3 diplomas, along with the following welding certificates:

    • 138 BW/FW PE/PB

    • 136 BW/FW PF/PB

    • 111 BW/FW PF/PB

    • 111 BW/FW PC/PB

  • You are a hands-on worker who works accurately.

  • You have a practical mindset and think in solutions.

  • You speak fluent English, as good communication skills are essential for safety regulations.
