Last weekend Seaway Heavy Lift used the Wagenborg Barge 8 for towing a huge topside. The impressive offshore substation passed in succession the Brienenoordbrug, Hefbrug, Koningshavenbrug and Erasmusbrug in the Rotterdam area. The final destination of the transformer is the offshore windenergy farm Riffgat on the North Sea, about 15 kilometers northwest of the German island Borkum.

The transformer with helideck will be installed on a jacket, which Wagenborg already transported September last year. After the installation of all cables, the substation will be put into operation. After this all 300 windturbines, with a 3,6 MW capacity each, will be connected. From this moment on the offshore windenergy farm, with a total capacity of 108 MW, is able to supply 116.000 German households of sustainable energy. It is expected to be operational summer 2013.
