First ring section of next generation fuel flex EasyMax 2.0

On Monday 9 February, the first ring section of Wagenborg’s new generation EasyMax 2.0 vessels was moved outside the construction hall. This marks the first visible step in the assembly of the fuel‑flex ships currently being built for Wagenborg, following the keel laying of six EasyMax 2.0 vessels earlier this year.

The ring section is a complete structural segment of the hull of the first vessel in the new series. Moving the section outside indicates that fabrication of this part has been finalised and that it is ready for integration within the wider hull structure. The operation took place on 9 February at shipyard Royal Niestern Sander, who will constructing the new EasyMax 2.0 series for Wagenborg.

The construction of yard number 871 highlights the strength of Northern Dutch shipbuilding. As a family-owned company with deep roots in the region, Wagenborg continues to invest in local craftsmanship, engineering excellence and long-term partnerships. The EasyMax 2 project brings together regional expertise and global ambition, showcasing how innovation and tradition can go hand in hand.

Maritime cluster

The EasyMax 2.0 new building programme also signals a boost for employment and continuity in the Northern Netherlands. The construction of six vessels ensures stable work for hundreds of skilled professionals at Niestern Sander and its supply chain partners. It strengthens the region’s maritime cluster and supports knowledge transfer between generations of shipbuilders.

Sustainability at the core

Each EasyMax 2.0 vessel is designed to significantly reduce CO₂ emissions and fuel consumption, contributing to Wagenborg’s sustainability goals and the broader energy transition in shipping. The vessels will be equipped with advanced energy-saving technologies and optimized for low-emission operations, aligning with international environmental standards and customer expectations.

The first EasyMax 2.0 is expected to be delivered early 2027.
