Main engine of first fuel flex EasyMax 2.0 vessel installed successfully
The construction of Wagenborg’s first fuel flex EasyMax 2.0 vessel, yard number 871, continues to make steady progress at shipyard Niestern Sander in Delfzijl. In recent weeks, several key milestones have been achieved, bringing the vessel another step closer to completion before the end of this year.
Following the successful installation of the bridge deck earlier this year, an important milestone in the build process, work has now advanced to the installation of some of the vessel’s most critical systems. The main engine and gearbox have been placed on board, forming the heart of the propulsion system of this new generation fuel flex multipurpose vessel.
The EasyMax 2.0 series builds on the proven success of Wagenborg’s existing EasyMax fleet while introducing a range of innovations aimed at future-proof, sustainable shipping. Designed as a 14,000 DWT multipurpose vessel, the ship combines operational flexibility with preparations for the changing requirements of the maritime industry. The fuel-flex concept enables operation on bio-MGO and includes readiness for future alternative fuels such as methanol, ammonia and LNG.
Building on a proven concept
The construction of the first EasyMax 2.0 highlights the close cooperation between Wagenborg and shipyard Niestern Sander. The long-standing partnership allows operational experience from Wagenborg’s fleet to be incorporated directly into the design and construction process. This close collaboration continues to create opportunities for innovation while maintaining control over quality, costs and delivery schedules.
Earlier milestones in the project included the transportation and assembly of multiple hull sections and the successful installation of the bridge deck, each representing important steps in the gradual build-up of the vessel. Together, these achievements underline the steady progress being made on the first ship in the EasyMax 2.0 series.
With the main engine and gearbox now in place, yard number 871 has entered a new phase of construction. Over the coming months, outfitting, systems integration and commissioning activities will continue as the vessel moves towards her launch in October.
Once delivered by the end of this year, the EasyMax 2.0 will represent the next evolution of Wagenborg’s successful EasyMax concept: combining efficiency, flexibility and future-ready fuel capabilities in a vessel designed to serve customers for decades to come.
