Wagenborg signs agreement with Wärtsilä for four fuel-flex marine engines

Wagenborg and Wärtsilä have signed an agreement during the SMM exhibition in Hamburg for the delivery of four new fuel-flex marine engines. The main engines are intended for the new EasyMax 2.0 vessels and represent a further step in the ongoing renewal and sustainability of the Wagenborg fleet.

In 2025, construction started on a series of six EasyMax 2.0 vessels at Royal Niestern Sander shipyard in Delfzijl. This new generation of vessels is based on the award winning EasyMax series, which has been designed with a strong focus on cargo capacity, operational efficiency and low fuel consumption. By selecting these fuel-flex engines Wagenborg is prepared for alternative fuels such as methanol, ammonia and LNG. They provide flexibility in a market where fuel and emissions regulations continue to evolve.

The partnership between Wärtsilä and Wagenborg spans several decades. Today, approximately ninety Wärtsilä engines are in operation across the Wagenborg fleet. The new agreement highlights the trust between both companies and their shared commitment to reliable and sustainable shipping.

The first EasyMax 2.0 vessel is expected to be delivered in Q1 of 2027. With the signing of this agreement, another important step has been taken in the further development of a modern and future-ready fleet.
