Wagenborg and INEOS celebrate christening and launch of first European-built offshore CO₂ carrier for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS)
Royal Wagenborg and INEOS Energy have today launched and named the first European built offshore CO2 carrier to enable carbon capture storage across Europe. The launching and naming of the ‘Carbon Destroyer 1’ marks a major breakthrough for Project Greensand and Carbon Capture and Storage across the EU.
Wagenborg introduces next-generation ‘EasyMax’ design and lays keel for six vessels
The award-winning energy-efficient EasyMax design results in a successful series of six EasyMax vessels in the Wagenborg fleet. This design has been upgraded to a next generation of 14.000 DWT EasyMax vessels, again setting a new standard for sustainability and flexibility in maritime sea transport.
First European-built offshore CO₂ carrier to be christened and launched on May 14
The completion of the hull of Europe’s first offshore CO₂ carrier marks a pivotal milestone in the energy transition and the advancement of carbon capture and storage (CCS) infrastructure within Europe. All ship sections of the vessel have now been successfully constructed and assembled at Royal Niestern Sander shipyard in the north of the Netherlands. This milestone signals the beginning of the final preparations for the vessel’s official christening and launch, set to take place on May 14.

Today, INEOS – the lead partner in Project Greensand – is visiting Royal Wagenborg in the Netherlands to see the Easymax CO₂ carrier currently under construction.
