The completion of the hull of Europe’s first offshore CO₂ carrier marks a pivotal milestone in the energy transition and the advancement of carbon capture and storage (CCS) infrastructure within Europe. All ship sections of the vessel have now been successfully constructed and assembled at Royal Niestern Sander shipyard in the north of the Netherlands. This milestone signals the beginning of the final preparations for the vessel’s official christening and launch, set to take place on May 14.
Today, INEOS – the lead partner in Project Greensand – is visiting Royal Wagenborg in the Netherlands to see the Easymax CO₂ carrier currently under construction.
Wagenborg proudly announces that its vessel Eemsborg has made the first ocean-going arrival of the season in the Port of Hamilton, marking the official start of the 2025 Great Lakes shipping season. Captain Shang and his crew of the MV Eemsborg earned the ceremonial ‘Top Hat’ distinction as the first ship in Hamilton port to import cargo, with the ship arriving March 26 with a load of steel. This milestone underscores the strategic importance of the Great Lakes for Wagenborg’s operations and its commitment to reliable year-round logistics solutions.
